Jaclyn Droll is the founder of Polaris Hair Removal Studio, where waxing meets self-love. She knew exactly what she wanted to do: redefine how the world perceived hair removal. For too long, the industry had felt icky, riddled with unspoken pressures that made women believe they needed to be hairless to be beautiful. It was an outdated, predatory narrative, whispering that smooth skin was the key to desirability. But she wanted to ask different questions: “Are you comfortable in your body? Are you doing this for yourself?”

The beauty and wellness industries had spent years shaping an idea of perfection, but Jaclyn refused to let her brand tell the same narrative. She couldn’t, in good conscience, build a career on the message that body hair was something to be ashamed of. It had to be about comfort, about coming home to oneself, not about conforming to someone else’s expectations. At her old job, clients would come in and say, “I have a date tonight—I want to feel clean down there”. She understood, but every time someone associated hair removal with looking good rather than feeling good in their own skin, it solidified her mission. Jaclyn wanted to change that mindset. That was the driving force behind everything she was building.

When it came time to rebrand, Jaclyn knew the name had to mean something. The Wax and Only had been fun, but it didn’t hold weight. She needed something that carried the depth of her purpose, something that would still resonate five, ten years from now. She put her intention out into the universe then one day, in the shower, she closed her eyes, and a picture of a star came to her. The name Polaris, the North Star, came to mind immediately. She rushed to write it down and started researching its meaning.

Polaris has long been a symbol of guidance, a steady point travelers use to find their way home. That word “home” stuck with her. The body is home. It’s where we should feel safest, most at peace. Jaclyn thought back to an affirmation she had created for herself years ago when going through a tough time with intrusive thoughts and anxiety. She would say to herself, “Come home to yourself. It’s okay. It’s safe here.” That message aligned perfectly with what she wanted her brand to represent. Hair removal shouldn’t be about insecurity or outside pressure, it should be about making choices that help you feel comfortable in your own body.

Jaclyn started out with just a couple of clients a day. As her business grew within just a year, she quickly found herself seeing up to 15 clients daily. No one had prepared her for the overwhelming growth, the constant movement of running a business alone. She was grateful, but she was in survival mode.

Now, Jaclyn is stepping into the new year with a clear vision for growth. She has found a rhythm of balancing clients, marketing, social media, and her own well-being. With a renewed sense of organization and confidence, she feels more prepared than ever. Polaris is more than just waxing; it’s about creating a space where people can feel at home in their bodies, on their own terms.
